Blood on his hands. Sirens in the distance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Scott standing in front of him, breathing hard but smiling like always.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cIf I ever disappear\u2026 and someone finds you with that watch\u2026\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cDon\u2019t ask questions first.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cHelp first.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The man\u2019s heart started pounding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No one knew that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Slowly\u2026 he pulled back and looked at the boy again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Really looked this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The silence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The certainty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhere is your father?\u201d he asked, barely holding himself together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The boy\u2019s fingers tightened around the watch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His expression didn\u2019t change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not fear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not sadness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Something else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Something heavier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And then he said it\u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">calm\u2026 steady\u2026 undeniable:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMy dad isn\u2019t dead.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Silence swallowed the entire lobby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The chandeliers. The people.
